Clyde the cat lives next door with his 9 brothers and sisters, which includes Rego.
For months after he moved in he would walk around our back garden meowing what sounded like "nobody loves me, ooooooo, nobody loves me". If you showed him any attention at all, after a brief skittishness, he would rub against everything he can find (chairs, trees, legs) but would continue his lament. "Nobody loves me, oooooooo...". After a few months of petting him and telling him what a good boy, a pretty boy, he is he started to calm down. Then he would briefly let me hold him. Then he would briefly sit in my lap. Then one day he wanted to follow me into the house. One day, after a few more weeks of patient coaxing and head scratching, he let me put him in my lap and he curled up and slept for a couple hours. Then he started to purr... now he comes in for a few hours every day, often until 11 pm when I have to put him outside so I can go to sleep. I don't feed him because I do not want him to switch loyalties, he still lives next door. He does drink from a bowl of water (preferrably warm/hot, cats like it better that way, give it a try) which Rego also sometimes drinks from (they do not like being in the house together: bad news). Clyde the cat no longer cries his lament. He seems to have a new self-confidence and I imagine him strutting down the street to the soundtrack of "Saturday Night Fever." oo oo oo oo, staying alive ...
